Frequently asked questions
What type of riding is the Shoei Hornet ADV designed for?
Is the Shoei Hornet ADV road legal in the UK?
Can I use goggles with the Hornet ADV?
Can the peak be removed?
Adventure bikes demand a helmet that can do two things well. The Shoei Hornet ADV does both without compromising either.
On road it behaves like a premium full face touring helmet, sealed, composed at motorway speeds, well-ventilated through its three-inlet system, and comfortable enough for a full day in the saddle. Off road, or when the tarmac runs out and the trail begins, the detachable peak keeps sun and mud out of your face, the goggle groove on the rear holds your strap in place, and the wide CNS-2 visor can be fully opened so you can run goggles without removing the shield. The Hornet ADV is genuinely designed for riders who do both, not riders who mostly ride on road and occasionally look at a dirt track.
The Sovereign TC-1 graphic puts it in red, black and white, a bold colourway that suits the Hornet ADV's purposeful, go-anywhere personality well.
The AIM+ shell is built from layers of organic and multi-composite fibre, produced in four sizes so every helmet from XS to XXL has a shell proportionate to the head inside it. The dual-density EPS liner manages impact energy across different zones, a construction that earned the Hornet ADV strong safety credentials across multiple independent assessments. Four outer shell sizes is a mark of a premium helmet at any price point.
The CNS-2 visor is wide, optically correct, and 3D injection-moulded for distortion-free vision at any angle. The QR-N base plate system allows the visor to be removed quickly and without tools, useful when switching between shield and goggles out on a trail. A Pinlock EVO insert is included in the box, which is significant given that Pinlock is often sold separately on competing adventure helmets at this price.
Ventilation runs through three closeable inlets, brow, chin and upper head, exhausting through six outlets at the rear. The peak itself is aerodynamically shaped via the wind-tunnel-developed V-460 visor system, with vent louvers that channel air into the helmet's upper intake rather than creating lift. It creates meaningful downforce at speed rather than the neck-straining lift you get from a poorly designed peak.
The E.Q.R.S. cheek pad system allows emergency responders to remove the helmet safely after an accident by pulling a tab, a standard safety feature on Shoei's higher-end helmets that matters far more than most riders realise until it does.
