Description

Shoei builds one off-road helmet. One. Where other manufacturers spread resources across multiple models and price points, Shoei put everything into the VFX-W, and it shows.

The Turmoil TC-8 is the black and orange colourway of what many dirt riders consider the benchmark motocross lid. Developed in collaboration with professional off-road riders, the VFX-W was designed from the ground up to handle the specific punishment of motocross, enduro and trail riding, hard landings, roost, sweat, heat and the constant physical demands of aggressive off-road riding.

The shell is built using Shoei's AIM+ technology, a combination of fibreglass and high-performance organic fibres bonded together into a construction so strong the fibres can only be cut with a laser. The result is a shell that's exceptionally light at 1,330g while offering serious impact protection. Four outer shell sizes ensure the helmet is always proportionate to your head, not just padded out with foam to fill the gap.

Ventilation is where the VFX-W earns its reputation. There's a large chin vent, three brow vents above the goggle port, and forehead inlets, all channelled through five rear exhausts including a large collar vent at the neck. Riders who've worn this helmet in full summer motos consistently rate the airflow as the best they've experienced in a motocross lid. The 3D Max-Dry interior wicks sweat efficiently to keep you focused on the ride, not the heat.

The goggle port is generously sized with an integrated goggle strap groove around the rear of the helmet to keep straps locked in position during aggressive riding, compatible with the full range of popular goggle brands. The adjustable visor is secured by plastic screws designed to snap cleanly in a crash rather than transmitting force to your neck.

At £249.99 against an original RRP of £449.99, this is a genuine Shoei off-road helmet at almost half price. The VFX-W is a proven race-ready lid at a clearance price that's hard to argue with.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Shoei VFX-W road legal in the UK?

The VFX-W carries ACU Gold approval, which is accepted at UK track days and for off-road use. It does not carry ECE 22.06 certification, the current standard for road use. It is intended for off-road riding, motocross, enduro and track day use.

What's the difference between the VFX-W and the VFX-WR?

The VFX-WR is the updated successor to the VFX-W, featuring improved ventilation with an additional air inlet and two extra outlets, Shoei's M.E.D.S. rotational impact absorption system, and ECE 22.06 certification. The VFX-W remains an excellent off-road helmet and is available here at significant discount to its original RRP.

Will my goggles fit the Shoei VFX-W?

The goggle port is large and designed to accommodate a wide range of popular brands. Oakley, 100%, Dragon and Scott goggles have all been confirmed to fit by riders. The moulded rear strap groove keeps your goggle strap secure during hard riding.

Does the visor adjust?

Yes. The visor has an extended adjustment slot for greater versatility and is secured by plastic screws designed to snap cleanly in a crash, a deliberate safety feature that prevents the peak from digging in and transmitting rotational force to your neck.
